1. तू दोस्त कसू का भी सितमगर न हुआ था औरों पे है वो ज़ुल्म कि मुझ पर न हुआ था

   अर्थ: You were never a friend to anyone, O cruel beloved; yet such cruelty you inflict upon others now as was never endured by me.

2. छोड़ा मह-ए-नख़शब की तरह दस्त-ए-क़ज़ा ने ख़ुर्शीद हुनूज़ उस के बराबर न हुआ था

   अर्थ: The hand of Fate cast him down like the fabled moon of Nakhshab, though even the sun had not yet risen to rival his light.

3. दरिया-ए-मआसी तुनुक-आबी से हुआ ख़ुश्क मेरा सर-ए-दामन भी अभी तर न हुआ था

   अर्थ: The river of sins ran dry from sheer lack of water, when even the hem of my robe had not yet grown wet.

4. जारी थी 'असद' दाग़-ए-जिगर से मिरी तहसील आतिश-कदा जागीर-ए-समुंदर न हुआ था

   अर्थ: My livelihood was drawn, O Asad, from the wounds of my heart, before the temple of fire became the salamander's fiefdom.
