माया मरी न मन मरा , मर-मर गए शरीर। आशा तृष्णा न मरी , कह गए दास कबीर॥
— Kabir
Meaning
Literally, the couplet states that the illusion and the mind have not died; only the bodies have perished. Furthermore, the desires and longings have also not died, according to the servant Shayar.
Explanation
Kabir suggests that the demise of the physical body is merely a physical event; the true struggle lies within the mind and our attachments. The persistence of Maya (illusion) and the mind suggests that even after the body perishes, our desires and illusory thoughts remain. This life, therefore, is not just about abandoning the body, but about achieving liberation from the bonds of craving and illusion.
