Ghazal
दिगर-गूँ है जहाँ तारों की गर्दिश तेज़ है साक़ी
This ghazal is a lament of a wandering and distressed heart, pleading with the 'Saqi' (cupbearer/divine intoxication) for healing its deep emotional and spiritual wounds. The poet observes that everywhere in the world, the whirl of stars is restless, yet his own heart bears the wound of despair. He laments that the sweetness of faith and knowledge has been lost, and the cure for his heart's ailment can only come from the Saqi's intoxicating grace.

दिगर-गूँ है जहाँ तारों की गर्दिश तेज़ है साक़ी
दिल-ए-हर-ज़र्रा में ग़ोग़ा-ए-रुस्ता-ख़े़ज़ है साक़ी
Oh Saqi, where the dust of stars whirls intensely, oh Saqi,
In every particle of the heart, the intoxication of Ruasta-Khez resides, oh Saqi.

The pleasure of religion and wisdom has been plundered from the people of Allah; oh Saqi (cupbearer), whose agony of blood is this, from whom has the art of the disbeliever taken away?

Only this elixir of intoxication, O cupbearer, can heal it.
O cupbearer, the cure for this same delay and this same ailment of the heart is only this intoxicating elixir.

For your birth, O cupbearer, is still shrouded in a veil.

ज़रा नम हो तो ये मिट्टी बहुत ज़रख़ेज़ है साक़ी
O Saqi, this patch of barren land is not without hope,
If it gets a little moisture, this soil is very fertile.
O Saqi, do not despair regarding your patch of barren land; if it gets a little moisture, this soil is very fertile.
