Do not ask about the desire/craving of the garden of the shrine; every fruit was encircled by suffering.

This profound couplet by Mir Taqi Mir speaks to the unattainable nature of desire. The 'garden of the beloved' (gulshan-e-mashhad) is beautiful, but the poet warns us not to ask about the depth of its passion. Why? Because every single piece of beauty, every fruit, ultimately marked the boundary of sorrow and separation. It suggests that even in paradise, there is an inherent pain.
