The wife-adorned, dirty, black, and ugly; upon the beauty of the wife-adorned, a crore of forms are spent. The patient, the sick, the sick, the entire world; one Kabir is not sick, whose abode is Rama. (In plain prose, the first couplet describes the vanity of physical beauty, especially that of a wife, which is considered dirty, black, and ugly despite the expenditure of many forms. The second couplet states that while the entire world, including the sick and the patient, is mortal, Kabir is immortal because his dwelling place is Rama.)

The Shayar Kabir immediately challenges the superficiality of worldly beauty, noting how much effort is spent on appearances that are inherently flawed. He contrasts this fleeting attention with the pervasive reality of sickness and death that affects everyone. Ultimately, Kabir suggests that true immunity—a soul untouched by the cycle of life and death—is found only by dedicating oneself to the divine.
