रहम कर ज़ालिम कि क्या बूद-ए-चराग़-ए-कुश्ता है

नब्ज़-ए-बीमार-ए-वफ़ा दूद-ए-चराग़-ए-कुश्ता है

दिल-लगी की आरज़ू बेचैन रखती है हमें
वर्ना याँ बे-रौनक़ी सूद-ए-चराग़-ए-कुश्ता है
A yearning for mirth keeps our spirits in unrest,Else, this world's gloom is an extinguished lamp's profit, at best.
The desire for amusement keeps us restless. Otherwise, the dullness of this world is like the profit of an extinguished lamp, yielding nothing but darkness.

नश्शा-ए-मय बे-चमन दूद-ए-चराग़-ए-कुश्ता है
जाम दाग़-ए-शो'ला-अंदूद-ए-चराग़-ए-कुश्ता है
The wine's delight, without a garden's grace, is but an extinguished lamp's dull smoke.
The cup itself, the flame-stained trace of that lamp, whose fire has broke.
The delight of wine, without the charm of a garden, is merely the smoke of an extinguished lamp. The wine cup is like the flame-stained mark of that very lamp which has been put out.

दाग़ हम दीगर हैं अहल-ए-बाग़ गर गुल हो शहीद
लाला चश्म-ए-हसरत-आलूद-ए-चराग़-ए-कुश्ता है
