जिस बज़्म में तू नाज़ से गुफ़्तार में आवे

जिस बज़्म में तू नाज़ से गुफ़्तार में आवे
जाँ कालबद-ए-सूरत-ए-दीवार में आवे

साए की तरह साथ फिरें सर्व ओ सनोबर
तू इस क़द-ए-दिलकश से जो गुलज़ार में आवे
Like shadows, the cypress and pine will follow along,Should you, with that enchanting gait, enter the garden fair.
If you enter the garden with your captivating gait, even the cypress and pine trees will follow you like shadows.

तब नाज़-ए-गिराँ माइगी-ए-अश्क बजा है
जब लख़्त-ए-जिगर दीदा-ए-ख़ूँ-बार में आवे
Then is the tears' weighty pride justified,When pieces of the heart in blood-laden eyes appear.
Then the weighty pride of tears is justified, when pieces of the heart appear in blood-raining eyes.

दे मुझ को शिकायत की इजाज़त कि सितमगर
कुछ तुझ को मज़ा भी मिरे आज़ार में आवे
Grant me permission, O cruel one, to complain,For you too might find some pleasure in my pain.

उस चश्म-ए-फ़ुसूँ-गर का अगर पाए इशारा
तूती की तरह आइना गुफ़्तार में आवे

मर जाऊँ न क्यूँ रश्क से जब वो तन-ए-नाज़ुक
आग़ोश-ए-ख़म-ए-हल्क़ा-ए-ज़ुन्नार में आवे
Why shouldn't I die of envy's keen pain,When that delicate form, so fair, so slight,In the curved embrace of the sacred thread does gain?

ग़ारत-गर-ए-नामूस न हो गर हवस-ए-ज़र
क्यूँ शाहिद-ए-गुल बाग़ से बाज़ार में आवे
If greed for wealth did not dishonor's shroud cast,Why would the flower's beauty to the market be passed?
If the greed for wealth did not destroy honor, why would the beauty of a flower leave the garden and come to the market?

तब चाक-ए-गरेबाँ का मज़ा है दिल-ए-नालाँ
जब इक नफ़स उलझा हुआ हर तार में आवे
O lamenting heart, the true meaning of tearing the collar is then,
When a single breath comes, entangled in every single thread.

आतिश-कदा है सीना मिरा राज़-ए-निहाँ से
ऐ वाए अगर मा'रिज़-ए-इज़हार में आवे
My breast's a fiery furnace, with a secret deep,
Alas, should that hidden truth ever out creep.

गंजीना-ए-मअ'नी का तिलिस्म उस को समझिए
जो लफ़्ज़ कि 'ग़ालिब' मिरे अशआ'र में आवे
Consider it the magic of meaning's trove,Each word, Ghalib, that in my verse is wove.
