दोस्त ग़म-ख़्वारी में मेरी सई फ़रमावेंगे क्या

ज़ख़्म के भरते तलक नाख़ुन न बढ़ जावेंगे क्या

बे-नियाज़ी हद से गुज़री बंदा-पर्वर कब तलक
हम कहेंगे हाल-ए-दिल और आप फ़रमावेंगे क्या
How long, O Patron, will your indifference exceed all bounds? We'll recount our heart's tale, and you'll only utter, 'what?'
O Patron, your indifference has exceeded all limits, for how long will this continue? We will tell the condition of our heart, and you will only say 'what?'.

हज़रत-ए-नासेह गर आवें दीदा ओ दिल फ़र्श-ए-राह
कोई मुझ को ये तो समझा दो कि समझावेंगे क्या
Should my revered advisor arrive, my eyes and heart shall pave his way, But someone please explain to me, what could he possibly say?
If the revered advisor comes, my eyes and heart will become the carpet for his path. But someone please explain to me what he could possibly advise or explain.

आज वाँ तेग़ ओ कफ़न बाँधे हुए जाता हूँ मैं
उज़्र मेरे क़त्ल करने में वो अब लावेंगे क्या
Today I go there, with sword and shroud prepared,What further excuse for my murder can now be declared?
Today I go there, having prepared my sword and shroud. What excuse will they now bring forward for killing me?

गर किया नासेह ने हम को क़ैद अच्छा यूँ सही
ये जुनून-ए-इश्क़ के अंदाज़ छुट जावेंगे क्या
If the preacher confined me, well, so let it be; But will these ways of love's madness ever flee?
If the advisor has imprisoned me, then fine, so be it. But will these manners of love's madness ever disappear?

ख़ाना-ज़ाद-ए-ज़ुल्फ़ हैं ज़ंजीर से भागेंगे क्यूँ
हैं गिरफ़्तार-ए-वफ़ा ज़िंदाँ से घबरावेंगे क्या
Born of her tresses, why would they shun the chain? Captives of loyalty, why should prison cause them pain?
Those born from the tresses, why would they run from the chain? Those who are captured by loyalty, why would they fear prison?

हम ने ये माना कि दिल्ली में रहें खावेंगे क्या
