बस-कि दुश्वार है हर काम का आसाँ होना

बस-कि दुश्वार है हर काम का आसाँ होना
आदमी को भी मुयस्सर नहीं इंसाँ होना
How hard it is for every task to become easy,Even for man, to truly be human, is not to be.

गिर्या चाहे है ख़राबी मिरे काशाने की
दर ओ दीवार से टपके है बयाबाँ होना

वाए-दीवानगी-ए-शौक़ कि हर दम मुझ को
आप जाना उधर और आप ही हैराँ होना

जल्वा अज़-बस-कि तक़ाज़ा-ए-निगह करता है
जौहर-ए-आइना भी चाहे है मिज़्गाँ होना
So fiercely does the splendor a gaze demand,That the mirror's essence longs to be eyelashes.
The splendor demands a gaze so intensely that even the essence of the mirror wishes to become eyelashes.

इशरत-ए-क़त्ल-गह-ए-अहल-ए-तमन्ना मत पूछ
ईद-ए-नज़्ज़ारा है शमशीर का उर्यां होना
Do not inquire of the ecstasy of the desirous at their killing ground,For the baring of the sword is a festival for the gaze.
Do not ask about the joy of those who desire at their killing ground, because for them, the baring of the sword is a festival for the gaze.

ले गए ख़ाक में हम दाग़-ए-तमन्ना-ए-नशात
तू हो और आप ब-सद-रंग-ए-गुलिस्ताँ होना
The mark of joy's desire, to dust we bore its sting,May you, a hundred-hued garden, keep on blossoming.
We carried the mark of joy's desire into the dust (grave). May you, yourself, be a garden of a hundred colors.

इशरत-ए-पारा-ए-दिल ज़ख़्म-ए-तमन्ना खाना
लज़्ज़त-ए-रीश-ए-जिगर ग़र्क़-ए-नमक-दाँ होना
The broken heart's pleasure, to suffer the wound of desire; the raw liver's delight, to be drenched in salt.
The pleasure for a broken heart is to bear the wound of desire. The delight of a wounded liver is to be immersed in salt.

की मिरे क़त्ल के बा'द उस ने जफ़ा से तौबा
हाए उस ज़ूद-पशेमाँ का पशेमाँ होना
After my murder, he repented his cruelty;Alas, that swift-remorseful one's remorse!

हैफ़ उस चार गिरह कपड़े की क़िस्मत 'ग़ालिब'
